Wallpapered Drawers
Define Your Style, Then Paint, Freshen, Adorn
Line the drawers with coordinating wallpaper. (Vintage is nice, but test it first as it is often too brittle to use.) Cut paper to size, set inside, and secure with double-sided tape.
Dresser Knobs
Hardware choices abound. Vintage glass knobs and porcelain clean easily, making them ideal for use in a nursery or a kitchen. Polished pewter and antique brass appear more formal, so try them in living rooms or entryways.
Silverware Drawer
Socks and sweaters have their place, but dresser drawers are just as handy for storing silverware, candles, napkins, and platters. In a family room, a dresser is ideal for containing DVDs, board games, and throws, and in a hallway, a dresser stows sheets and pillows for overnight guests. And you might leave a drawer open to display a favorite collection.
Dresser as Sideboard
A painted dresser lets you introduce a splash of unexpected color, so make the most of it and use a dresser as the focal piece in a room. Paint your way to vintage cachet. Rescue an old dresser and adorn it in silky color, then select paint in a shade that's as refined -- or playful -- as you'd like your home to feel. Revive a dresser, as we have, and use it as a sideboard, making the most of its top with a display of favorite serving pieces.
