A Sprawling Kentucky Retreat - Part 4

Into the Woods

A limestone path, lined with wild daisies, leads from the cabin to the glass house.

Cutting Garden

The duo also planted a lush flower garden, ringed by a weathered oak fence, in which casual grassy paths wind through heirloom roses and hundreds of irises. In the valley below the cabin, they added a vegetable garden where Woods cultivates tomatoes, lettuces, garlic, and shallots, which he combines to create big salads for the friends who are usually gathered around the dinner table.

In this photo: A gravel drive runs past the 12,000-square-foor cutting garden, home to many varieties of rose and iris, as well as peonies, hollyhocks, chrysanthemums, and other flowers.

Coming Up Roses

Some 48 rose varieties grow on the property, including 'Crown Princess Margareta.'

Purple Blooms

'Globemaster' alliums and Camelot foxgloves thrive on the farm.
