4. Handle it
It’s amazing what a difference new handles, pulls and knobs can make to a kitchen. New ranges of stainless steel and brushed aluminium handles are available for under $10 each at hardware stores. Ensure you stay with one style throughout the space to keep a sense of continuity and cohesion.
5. Display it
Don’t let unused wall space go to waste. As Jason suggests, “Put all you best objects and kitchen tools on display.” He also suggests suspending pots and pans from the ceiling or take a tip from professional chefs who hang their utensils on stainless-steel wall systems. For a low-cost option, use a short metal rod outfitted with steel S-hooks – ideal for holding ladles, spoons and other utensils.
6. Plant it
Bring the herb garden into the kitchen for a splash of colour and a waft of scent. Herbs grow just fine in pots as long as they are properly watered and positioned to get enough sun. Not only will it add an interesting new element to the kitchen, but fresh herbs will be just an arm’s length away.
7. Sit on it
Time to replace your out-of-date or wobbly stools? Try some design tips from Jason: “If there are three stools, select one stool from the same range but introduce a different seat colour. It adds real impact to the space.”
