7 Ways to Update Your Kitchen in a Weekend

If you’re feeling a little tired of your old kitchen, there’s no need to blow big bucks sprucing it up. Here are seven easy weekend projects that will breathe a new lease of life into your kitchen.

1. Light it
Replacing old pendant lampshades is a relatively cheap way to give your kitchen a whole new look. “A pendant makes a real statement and sets the tone and mood for any kitchen,” says interior stylist Mr Jason Grant. He says it’s worth being daring when it comes to choosing the material – “even in an ultra-modern kitchen, an industrial-style metal light is a real show stopper!”

2. Paint it

“A quick lick of paint is an easy update,” says Jason. “Or, for a real impact, paint your kitchen cupboards.” Cabinetry comes in for a lot of wear and tear in a kitchen, so repainting will make them look like new. And to really update the look, try a whole new colour scheme.

3. Shelve it

A few well positioned wall-mounted shelves can minimise mess. Before buying, make sure there are no hidden wires or pipes. And figure out what items will be on display as this will affect the size, style and number of shelves. Unusual crockery, antique appliances or framed photos can add a touch of whimsy and stamp the room with your own style.
